Kayutangan was a historical Central Business District (CBD) area of Malang City since the Dutch East Indies era. However, it is slowly dying because of the emergence of new shopping centers and CBD in Malang. To strengthen the branding of Malang as a Heritage City, the government is revitalizing Kayutangan, which has been dormant before. Therefore, this research investigates how historical public space revitalization and community activity contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research uses the descriptive qualitative method using case study that examines the community activities using place-centered mapping and changes made by the revitalization effort. There are three new activities emerges in KSC; social, economic, and cultural activities. The research results show that the revitalization of Kayutangan Street Corridor (KSC) and the emergence and collaboration of social, economic, and cultural activities successfully revitalized KSC in sustainable ways. Seventeen new activities are emerging; 70.6% are the emergence of economic activities, and the remaining 29.4% are cultural activities. The emergence of these activities resulted in thirteen activity-enlivening spots, 61.5% caused by economic activities and 38.5% driven by cultural activities. The economic and cultural activities succeeded in attracting social activities. Crowded with visitors and its strategic location increases investors’ interest in opening a business in KSC that contributes to the existing building’s preservation and Kayutangan and Malang City’s economy. The government facilitates the music groups to perform on-site as one of the district’s attractions. The result of KSC’s development suggests that the revitalization can contribute to three goals of SDGs on good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, and sustainable cities and communities.

As the aging population intensifies, the community elderly care model has gradually become an important model for elderly care. The research takes the community elderly care model as the starting point, the public spaces is used as the key research objective. Firstly, the relevant theoretical research and conceptual definition of aging adaptation design are elaborated. Secondly, the excellent practical cases of the construction and renovation of elderly care communities both domestically and internationally are analyzed. The problems in the aging adaptation design of public spaces in China are analyzed. Finally, based on the psychological, physiological, and social needs of the elderly, a design strategy for public spaces that are suitable for aging under the community elderly care model is proposed, namely, “layout consultation spaces at different levels, form leisure spaces that are conducive to communication, and construct kitchen spaces with composite infiltration”. Through reasonable design and planning, the aging adaptation design strategy of public spaces under the community elderly care model can create a livable and enjoyable leisure environment. This study explores the relationship between spatial form and inner vitality, and discusses the impact of three morphological variables on spatial vitality and spatial cognition of residents and tourists. The purpose of this study is to investigate the internal relationship between spatial morphological characteristics, spatial vitality, and people’s spatial cognition. In China, the over-commercialization of tourism has led to changes in the historical spaces of many traditional villages, and the problems of homogenization and commercialization have become increasingly obvious. To address this, this study will use a combination of space syntax and cognitive imagery to understand the historical street space. Space syntax theory quantifies the division of spatial scales and studies the relationship between spatial form and human behavior. The concept of cognitive imagery reproduces the user’s spatial cognition through imagery, and explores the relationship between spatial elements and cognition. Combining these two theories can provide a better understanding of the laws of spatial form and behavioral cognition. This study investigates the historical streets in Hongcun village, a World Cultural Heritage Site located in China. The research sample consists of 51 tourists who have been traveled to Hongcun, and 49 villagers who still reside in the study area. Spatial analysis was performed using DepthmapX software. The results show that there is a positive correlation between the degree of integration, intelligibility, and optionality of traditional street space, the vitality of the space, and people’s cognition. However, residents and tourists have different perceptions of the same traditional street space due to their different identities and awareness. When formulating protection and utilization plans, the needs of residents and tourists should be considered comprehensively to achieve a reasonable allocation of village spaces. The study’s results provide a reference for policymakers to better understand the relationship between the spatial form and inner vitality of traditional villages.
