Roles of Multidrug Transporters of MFS in Plant Stress Responses

Abstract: Abstract-Multidrug transporters are a class of secondary transporters and important transmembrane transporters which belong to facilitator superfamily (MFS). Multidrug transporters play critical roles in plant defense against various toxin stresses by exporting toxin outside the cell to reduce the accumulation of toxin compounds in body. In this article, structural features and mechanisms of MFS multidrug transporters responsed to plant stresses are described in details , such as defending against the infectio… Show more

“…Here we validated expression of three salinity-responsive genes using RT-PCR. The five most important plant transporter families that have been implicated in biotic and abiotic stress responses included: ATP-binding cassette (ABC), multidrug and toxic compound exporters (MATE), major facilitator superfamily (MFS), small multidrug resistance (SMR), and resistance-nodulation-division proteins (RND) (Peng et al 2011). However, ABC is the largest transporter family protein found in all living organisms.…”

“…Multidrug transporters play critical roles in plant defense, such as decreasing the accumulation of toxins secreted by the pathogen and exporting secondary metabolites out of the cell. 24 Ten transmembrane regions were predicted using TMHMM v.0.92b 25 for all sequences in this cluster and eight out of ten sites identified by MEME were found in the transmembrane regions (Fig. 3).…”

“…They transport a wide spectrum of substrates across bio‐membranes and play a pivotal role in multiple physiological processes (Yan, ). In plants, MFS transporters respond to plant stresses, such as defending against infection by pathogens and exporting toxic compounds and heavy metals (Peng et al ., ). In this study, we noticed that the gene expression level of the contig C17235 was higher in mycelium sampled in situ than in the mycelium cultivated in vitro in presence of nickel.…”
