Room-temperature phosphorescence determination of melamine in dairy products using l-cysteine-capped Mn-doped zinc sulfide (ZnS) quantum dots

Abstract: A simple, sensitive, and precise room-temperature phosphorescence method was developed for the determination of melamine in dairy products using l-cysteine-capped Mn-doped zinc sulfide (ZnS) quantum dots as a probe. This method is based on the quenching of the phosphorescence signal of quantum dots by the interaction with melamine. Under optimum conditions, phosphorescence intensity was quenched by various concentrations of melamine in a linear range from 50 to 500ng/mL, with a detection limit of 5.95ng/mL in … Show more

“…This technique was later applied in milk samples and displayed recoveries between 96~103% with a RSD of 1.2%. Demirhan and co-workers also proposed the RTP-based determination of melamine by means of L-cysteine-capped Mn-doped zinc sulfide (ZnS) quantum dots [45]. The RTP of this probe decreased linearly between 396 nM-3.96 µM of melamine with a LOD of 47 nM in 10 mM phosphate buffer (at pH 7.4).…”

“…28−30 Consequently, QDs have gained great interest as luminescent probes for the determination of various analytes in different sample matrices. 31,32 This article presents a simple room temperature phosphorimetric (RTP) method using L-cysteine-capped Mn-doped ZnS QDs for the determination of GLU in foodstuffs. Previously described spectrometric and luminescence methods for determination of GLU need derivatization steps, which are time consuming and need chemicals that may cause interference.…”
