Root coverage procedures for the treatment of localised recession-type defects

Abstract: Subepithelial connective tissue grafts, coronally advanced flap alone or associated with other biomaterial and guided tissue regeneration may be used as root coverage procedures for the treatment of localised recession-type defects. In cases where both root coverage and gain in the keratinized tissue are expected, the use of subepithelial connective tissue grafts seems to be more adequate. Randomised controlled clinical trials are necessary to identify possible factors associated with the prognosis of each PPS… Show more

“…The root covering technique described by Langer and Langer (12), provides the most predictable results among the existing techniques (4,13). However, studies comparing smoking and non-smoking patients under root coverage procedures reported a negative influence of smoking on treatment predictability (3,11,14,15).…”

“…Chambrone, Sukakava, Aruajo, Pustiglioni, Chambrone under the Cochrane Collaboration in 2009, ascertained the superiority of SCTGs over the other periodontal plastic surgical approaches for root coverage. [20] In spite of its promising results, SCTG has some limitations. To overcome some of the drawbacks, PCG has been considered.…”

“…It might be sensible to suggest the use of a single dose of 2 g prophylactic amoxicillin before dental implant placement Periodontics 46. Chambrone et al 2009 The results of this review have shown that most periodontal plastic surgery procedures led to statistically significant gains in gingival recession depth, clinical attachment level, and width of keratinized tissue, 23/24 studies were however judged to be at high risk of bias I 47. Deacon et al 2010 There is evidence from 7 trials of up to 3 months and at unclear/high risk of bias that rotation oscillation brushes reduce plaque and gingivitis more than sideto-side brushes I 48.…”
