Rosthorin A inhibits non-small cell lung cancer cell growth and metastasis through repressing epithelial-mesenchymal transition via downregulating Slug

Abstract: Lung cancer always ranks first in the number of cancer deaths every year, accounting for 18.4% of total cancer deaths in 2018. Metastasis is the main cause of death in lung cancer patients. The identification of bioactive components of traditional Chinese medicine is very important for the development of novel reagents against non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Rosthorin A has originated from Rabdosia rosthornii (Diels) Hara which excerpts from ‘Chinese materia medica’, and is known to … Show more

“…Due to the high mortality rate (accounting for 18.4% of global cancer-associated deaths in 2018), NSCLC remains a serious public health problem worldwide, and the prognosis of most patients remains poor due to tumor metastasis ( 26 ). Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that m6A regulators contribute to cancer progression and metastasis ( 27 ).…”

“…In the theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), LUAD belongs to the category of “lung obstruction”, which can be treated by “nourishing yin and clearing heat”. Various Chinese herbal medicines and decoctions, such as Rabdosia rosthornii (Diels) H. Hara, 14 Tripterygium Hook.f., 15 Ze-Qi-Tang 16 and Fei-Liu-Ping ointment 17 have been reported to inhibit autophagy and apoptosis of tumor cell, angiogenesis and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) outside the tumor. 18 , 19 Thus, TCM has an advantage in suppressing recurrence in lung cancer postoperative patients.…”
