RRDE and Voltammetric Study of ORR on Pyrolyzed Fe/Polyaniline Catalyst. On the Origins of Variable Tafel Slopes

Abstract: Catalytic activity of heat-treated iron and polyaniline-based oxygen reduction catalysts was studied in aqueous acidic media using the rotating ring disk (RRDE) technique and linear potential scan voltammetry employing stationary electrodes. The stationary voltammograms of the catalyst exhibit the presence of a reversible surface redÀox reaction at 0.647 V vs RHE. It is shown that molecular oxygen reversibly adsorbs on the catalyst surface at potentials more positive than the formal potential of the surface re… Show more

“…LSV analysis is another crucial method that describes the ORR activity of synthesized nanocomposites using a rotating-disk electrode (RDE) or rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE). 45,[111][112][113] Similar to CV measurements, the LSV analysis is also performed in an O 2 -saturated 0.1 M KOH solution at different rotation rates under room temperature. The electrolytic bath includes three electrodes: a RDE or RRDE quantitatively coated with the catalyst under investigation, an Ag|AgCl/KCl (saturated) reference electrode and a Pt wire as a counter electrode.…”

“…RRDE)o bserved performances into powero utput in practical devices; (3) dealing with degradation of these catalysts under operational conditions that limit their ultimate lifetime. There has been progress in addressing the oxygen reduction activity of carbon catalysts; [6,[12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] however,t here is ag ap in understanding the activity of the carbon catalystc athodes, in part due to issues in appropriately determining ORR kinetics andm ass transport overpotential under fuel cell conditions.…”
