rs10505474 and rs7837328 at 8q24 Cumulatively Confer Risk of Prostate Cancer in Northern Han Chinese

Abstract: Aims: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several risk variants for prostate cancer (pCa) mainly in Europeans, which need to be further verified in other racial groups. We selected six previously identified variants as candidates and to define the association with PCa in Northern Han Chinese. Methods: 749 subjects from Beijing and Tianjin in Northern China were included. Six variants (rs10505474, rs7837328, rs4242384, rs7813, rs486907 and rs1058205) were genotyped by high resolution melting … Show more

“…In southern Chinese, rs7837328 was reported to not be associated with PCa 26. Interestingly, a statistically significant result was found in the northern Chinese Han population, for both of the alleles ( P =0.004) and genotypes ( P =0.008) 15. This discrepancy may be explained by daily lifestyle, dietary habits, geographic climate, ethnic diversity, and so on.…”

“…Among these, 11 records were Caucasian-based (13,652 cases and 14,221 controls), and three records were Asian-based (2,586 cases and 2,373 controls). In the same way, six articles about rs7837328 were selected in this study 15,2327. Caucasians had two records (1,341cases and 1,260 controls), whereas Asians had four records (6,925 cases and 5,115 controls).…”

“…Although the morbidity of PCa in Asia is lower than the places like Oceania, Europe and North America, it indeed has a rapid increasing (Wang et al, 2012;Matshela et al, 2014;Zhang et al, 2014). Despite the fact that the complex etiology of PCa remains obscure, various risk factors play important roles in PCa development such as genetic variations, advanced age and environmental exposures, which join hands in hands, triggering the disease.…”

“…Due to the complexity of origin and causes of PCa, it is difficult to pinpoint the root causes but a variety of risk factors including advanced age, culture, environmental variations and genetic alterations have been identified as major contributors in its development (Zhang et al, 2012). The absolute range of PCa alterations are still not characterized (Berger et al, 2011) and thus only limited data is available in relation to the functional SNPs association in their respective pathways (Hu et al, 2013;Karimpur-Zahmatkesh et al, 2013;Zhang et al, 2014).…”
