Ruminal degradation and estimated energy and protein values for ruminants of Durum wheat varieties grown in three locations

Abstract: Durum wheat is mainly used in pasta production, but may also be used as animal feed, for example as concentrate for dairy cows. Data on the ruminal degradation of Durum grains are scarce. Hence, the objective of the present study was to describe ruminal in situ crude protein (CP) and starch (ST) degradation, to investigate in vitro gas production kinetics, and to estimate utilisable CP at the duodenum (uCP) in vitro of five Durum varieties from three growing locations. Metabolisable energy (ME) and digestibili… Show more

“…A number of 41 studies from 17 references were used as a database [10,11,[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. Data collection was obtained by searching for articles published in English from Science Direct and Google Scholar on in situ technique of starch degradation in single feedstuff without treatments.…”

“…Wheat is a major source of protein and energy for humans (Krieg et al, 2020;Singh & Majumdar, 2015) and is the most widely grown cereal in the world because of its unique viscoelastic dough properties (Cheng et al, 2016). Achievement of the maximum yield is the main objective of farmers in the developing world, while grain baking quality is more important for the consumer ( Etienne et al, 2019).…”
