Rupture of Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm into Interventricular Septum: Role of Cardiac CT

Abstract: Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm dissecting and forming sinus tract into interventricular septum is an extremely rare complication of sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. Echocardiography and conventional angiography were used earlier to diagnose ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. Cardiac CT has emerged as a valuable non-invasive diagnostic tool for evaluation of complications of sinus of Valsalva aneurysm. In this article, we report two cases of ruptured sinus of Valsalva aneurysm arising from right and left coronary sinu… Show more

“…Congenital heart disease such as VSD, bicuspid aortic valve, or aortic insufficiency may coexist with SVA. Causes of acquired aneurysms include trauma, tuberculosis, infective endocarditis, Behçet disease, syphilis, and atherosclerosis [4]. Thurnam reported the first case with a ruptured SVA in 1840 [5].…”

“…A three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiogram clearly demonstrated the fistula between the ascending aorta and the RV (Fig. 1C, Movies 3,4). A cardiac magnetic resonance image also revealed the ruptured SVA (Fig.…”

“…Echocardiography plays a critical role in the assessment of the location and range of interventricular septal dissecting aneurysm, rupture location, orifice communication and anatomy of the aortic root. More importantly, we highlight the role of multimodality cardiac imaging [8].…”

“…Ruptured Sinus of Valsalva Aneurysm (RSOVA) is a rare lesion seen in both pediatric and adult population [1][2][3]. A right sinus of Valsalva aneurysm usually ruptures into the right ventricle and the aneurysms of non-coronary sinus into the right atrium [4].…”
