Fulminant hepatitis : case reportA 36-year-old man developed fulminant hepatitis following turmeric administration. The man, who was admitted to hospital for yellow discoloration of the skin, eyes and urine for one week had been receiving unspecified turmeric supplements [route and dosage not stated]. Laboratory screening revealed AST of 1013 U/L, ALT of 3300 U/L, total bilirubin of 17.2 mg/dL. Liver ultrasound, abdomen CT, viral and autoimmune hepatitis panels were unremarkable. Liver biopsy showed acute cholestatic hepatitis, suggesting drug-induced liver injury, and turmeric-induced fulminant hepatitis was confirmed.Turmeric supplements were stopped. Subsequently, the man's symptoms resolved.
