“…We appreciate the response to our initial article reviewing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and pregnancy (1) from Andrew et al (2). We strongly agree that intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is an invaluable tool for the assessment of IBD activity during pregnancy, at which time standard inflammatory biomarkers, specifically erythrocyte sedimentation rate, may be unreliable for disease activity monitoring (3), and endoscopic assessment—although generally considered safe and reasonable if strongly indicated (4)—is avoided. Moreover, unlike computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, IUS requires neither radiation nor contrast exposure and can be easily performed during a routine office visit.…”
