“…Solid waste brings a lot of problems to human as well as the environment if not properly managed. Chireshe (2020) established that some of the problems associated with poor solid waste management in Harare city included diseases such as diarrhoea, malaria, typhoid, dysentery, skin infections, fever, ground water pollution, bad odours and distortion of aesthetic value of suburbs. Poor management of solid waste in cities, may also act as a bleeding ground for disease causing organisms (Wasteaid and ICCM, 2020;Tsai et al, 2020;Tausova et al, 2020;Kubanza and Simatele, 2019;Maskey, 2018).…”

“…In addition to putting people's health at risk, open dumping can damage underground water supplies and produce gases that have the potential to cause cancer in local populations [35]. Furthermore, this kind of illicit landfill raises dangers to human health and the environment by trapping different animals and creating an environment that is conducive to the growth of pests, most notably mosquitoes [36]. Therefore, continuous monitoring of open dumping site and initiation of necessary rehabilitation efforts are important for the community and public health.…”

“…In Africa, rapid population growth has increased the generation of solid waste and this poses environmental and health risks (Dri, Canfora, Antonopoulos and Gaudillat, 2018;Nwosu and Chukwueloka, 2020). A study by Chireshe (2020) in Zimbabwe found that some of the problems associated with poor solid waste management in Harare included diseases such as diarrhea, malaria, typhoid, dysentery, bad odours, distortion of aesthetic value of suburbs and floods.…”
