Abstract: Patients with thalassemia are at increased risk for infections, especially after undergoing splenectomy. Vaccinations and antimicrobial prophylaxis are recommended in these patients, but the optimal immunization schedule for Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine is unknown.
