Salidroside attenuates cardiac dysfunction in a rat model of diabetes

Abstract: Physiological damages directly or indirectly caused by diabetes have become one of the major risks for morbidity and mortality among patients worldwide. 1 Diabetic complications include diabetic cardiovascular diseases, 2 cerebrovascular diseases, kidney diseases, neuropathy, eye diseases and diabetic foot, among which diabetic heart insufficiency is the most deadly. 3 More than 70% of diabetic patients die of cardiovascular diseases, 2-4 times higher than non-diabetic patients. 4,5 The pathophysiological mech… Show more

“…A 0.1 mol/L sodium citrate solution prepared a 1% Streptozotocin (STZ, Cat#S0130, Boaigang) solution. Fresh 1% STZ solution was then injected intraperitoneally (ip) at 35 mg/kg to induce a diabetic rat model reference to Hao [ 16 ]. The modeled rats were continuously fed with a high-sugar and high-fat diet, while another 6 rats were fed with normal standard feeding.…”

“…Yet another known SIRT3 activator, Salidroside, extracted from Rhodiola rosea has been shown to protect against cardiac dysfunction in animal models of diabetes and myocardial infarction (MI) (152,153). In mice models of MI, Salidroside reduces fibrosis and infarct size and improves cardiac function.…”

“…In doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity, salidroside suppressed the excessive oxidative stress by inhibiting NOX1 and augmented the endogenous antioxidative enzymes, catalase, and manganese superoxide dismutase ( Wang et al, 2013 ). Salidroside protects against diabetes-induced cardiac dysfunction by modulating the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), AMPK, and AKT/heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) signaling pathways ( Hao et al, 2021 ; Ni et al, 2021 ), ( Table 4 ).…”
