SalivaDB—a comprehensive database for salivary biomarkers in humans

Abstract: Saliva as a non-invasive diagnostic fluid has immense potential as a tool for early diagnosis and prognosis of patients. The information about salivary biomarkers is broadly scattered across various resources and research papers. It is important to bring together all the information on salivary biomarkers to a single platform. This will accelerate research and development in non-invasive diagnosis and prognosis of complex diseases. We collected widespread information on five types of salivary biomarkers—protei… Show more

“…24 Infectious disease, cancer -both localized and systemic, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and more have demonstrated detectable biomarkers in saliva. [24][25][26] We choose to use saliva as the diagnostic medium for detecting SARS-CoV-2 infection. Unlike previous studies that use saliva for diagnostics, our study did not employ any preprocessing steps to enhance data quality.…”

“…Liquid biopsy represents a groundbreaking advancement in diagnostics, enabling the detection and monitoring of various diseases through the analysis of biofluids [1][2][3]. This minimally invasive technique permits sampling throughout the disease course, circumventing the risks associated with tissue biopsies [4].…”

“…Salivary biomarkers can be grouped into four categories: agents, products, tissue degradation components of microbial origin, and modifiers of host response. 6 Inflammatory substances are molecules that initiate and control the body's response to infection in relation to inflammation. This contains factors and enzyme, which includes cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors.…”
