Salsa20 based lightweight security scheme for smart meter communication in smart grid

Abstract: The traditional power gird is altering dramatically to a smart power grid with the escalating development of information and communication technology (ICT). Among thousands of electronic devices connected to the grid through communication network, smart meter (SM) is the core networking device. The consolidation of ICT to the electronic devices centered on SM open loophole for the adversaries to launch cyber-attack. Therefore, for protecting the network from the adversaries it is required to design lightweight… Show more

“…Within increasing demand, the ideas of the concept distributed generation emerged, namely the system operation pattern by connecting the power plant to the distribution medium voltage grid to obtain a robust and reliable electricity system [13]. Security of electricity supply is the main factor considered to serve customers / consumers effectively and efficiently [14]. Modern society requires a more reliable electricity supply, due to higher demand at the connected knot critical points [15].…”

“…It can be said that today, the most significant features of cryptography are system function and delay time, policy implementation and support for cloud deployment and IoT cryptography [12]- [15]. As can be seen, the new necessities in this domain, such as quantum cryptography [16] and smart grid [17], require these needs to be considered in the design of cryptographic algorithms. So the purpose of this study is examination and statistical analysis of goals of design and implementation of cryptography algorithms based on different components [18].…”
