Sampling frequency influence on magnetic characteristic evaluation under high frequency GaN inverter excitation

Abstract: Nowadays, there is a great interest on new magnetic materials and their outstanding properties of low iron losses. However, when a magnetic material is experimentally characterized, it is important to select a suitable sampling frequency specially when the inverter is driven at a high carrier frequency. Nevertheless, iron losses of a magnetic material under inverter excitation are usually underestimated when the inverter is driven at an insufficient sampling frequency. This paper introduces the iron losses of … Show more

“…Commercially available GaN transistors are developed by various manufacturers, namely Efficient Power Conversion (EPC), Panasonic, and Transphorm. While prior studies [1][2][3][4][5] evinced that a high-frequency H-bridge GaN inverter with compact size, lower-price, and high-performance is rarely found in the market, this project was designed to fulfill the indicated demand. Previously, scientists have designed GaN inverters using the dual-frequency programmed harmonic modulation method at ~26-991.6 kHz with totem-pole rectifiers operating in a discontinuous conduction mode at 6.78 MHz [6,7].…”

“…The core loss density per mass unit can be obtained from different ways. In [16]- [18] the measured dynamic loop B0(Hs) during one period of the fundamental frequency f is obtained as:…”

“…Nevertheless, the measured dynamic loop B0(Hs) of (3) and presented in [16]- [18] tends to suffer from numerical inaccuracies if the integration in (2) and differentiation in (3) are not consistent with each other. For instance, the results presented in [16]- [18] show a considerable variation of the calculated core losses using (3).…”
