Sampling Rate Impact on the Tuning of PID Controller Parameters

Abstract: Abstract-The paper deals with an analysis of automatic control system with continuous and discrete PID controllers. A method of tuning the parameters of the continuous controller is presented, which is optimal according to the ITAE criterion. The behavior of control systems with discrete controllers whose parameters were tuned using the mentioned method are described. The impact of changes in the sampling period of controlled signal on the control quality is shown. Changes of the values of optimal parameters o… Show more

“…9). These data made it possible to choose the correct parameters of the PID controller [6,7,18,19,24,26,32]. Illustrations ( Fig.10) and (Fig.11) show the influence of the changes in environment temperature (inside chamber) on mapping of measured surface.…”

“…When discretizing continuous controllers by using mathematical formulas describing the relation between Laplace and Z-transforms, a smaller sampling period means higher accuracy. Numerous research was done in this topic (considering constant and variable sampling rates) [24,41,63]. For the FOPDT system (31), the following practical rule is proposed [2]…”

“…For digital implementation of the PID controllers which is prevalent in the era of computer technologies, a correct choice of the sampling period for calculating the algorithm is also important. Paper [19] reports results of a study on the influence of this factor on behavior of the control system and shows differences in the values of settings. At the same time, because of the high speed of implementation of current programs, this factor exerts influence on the choice of numerical methods of implementing integration and differentiation more than on dynamics of the control object.…”
