“…Conversely, it is possible to find a diverse and abundant presence of sand flies nearby households in different areas of Amazonas municipalities [33,34], indicating that at least some fragmented forest may possibly support or is a risk factor of ACL transmission. Although the above factors have demonstrated to be associated with ACL transmission, the high heterogeneity of parasite and sand-fly species in the region should exert a great influence on the transmission of the disease [34][35][36][37]. J unior et al (2000) reported that in a municipality in the region of Middle Solimões, Trichophoromyia ubiquitalis, Nyssomyia antunesi and Nyssomyia yuilli yuilli were the most abundant phlebotomine species [34], while Silva et al (2014) described that in L abrea, municipality of the Purus River region, the most frequent species were Trichophoromyia ubiquitalis, Psychodopygus davisi and Nyssomyia antunesi [37].…”

“…Insects are the most diverse of all animal classes on the planet, and Brazil is the country with the greatest insect diversity, with estimates of 400–500 thousand known species, with most of these inhabiting the Amazon forest [ 1 – 3 ]. Anthropic activity has affected some insect species, especially dipteran vectors such as sand flies, biting midges, and mosquito populations [ 4 6 ]. Mosquitoes are vulnerable to changes in environment and climate caused by deforestation and land use.…”

“…Trichopygomyia wagleyi (Causey & Damasceno, 1945) (2 ♂, Figure 2F) has been recorded in Amazonas State, primarily in forest fragments (Pereira Júnior et al, 2015). In a recent survey of the road that connects Amazonas and Rondônia states, this species was found in a forest edge near peridomiciles (Julião et al, 2019) and in upland forest areas near small farms in a municipality along the middle Solimões River (Pereira Júnior et al, 2015). This species has also been recorded in tropical rain forests in Venezuela, Colombia and Bolivia (Galati, 2018).…”
