Sandaracinomonas limnophila gen. nov., sp. nov., a new member of the family Cytophagaceae isolated from a freshwater mesocosm

Abstract: A bacterial strain designated FSY-15 T was isolated from a freshwater mesocosm in Taiwan and characterised using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of strain FSY-15 T were Gram-negative, aerobic, non-spore forming, non-motile rods and formed orange coloured colonies. Growth occurred at 20-30 C (optimum, 25 C), at pH 6-7.5 (optimum, pH 7) and with 0-0.5 % NaCl (optimum, 0 %). Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and coding sequences of 92 protein clusters indicated that strain FSY-15 T for… Show more

“…Later, Sandaracinomonas limnophila gen. nov., sp. nov. was described [2], which is closely related to Aquirufa and of comparable genome size. Two months after the publication of the genus Aquirufa , the description of Allopseudarcicella aquatilis gen. nov., sp.…”

“…All by now, described members of this clade, as well as the new strains of this study, have in common that they were isolated from aquatic habitats or sources associated with water (Kämpfer et al 2012 ; Chen et al 2013 , 2020 ; Sheu et al 2017 ; Pitt et al 2020 ). While the strains of the genera Aquirufa and Sandaracinomonas have genome sizes of about 3 Mbp, the available genome sequences of further species of the clade are double the size (Fig.…”

“…The genus Aquirufa was first described by Pitt et al in 2019 (Pitt et al 2019 ) and comprises at the time of writing five species (Pitt et al 2019 , 2020 ; Sheu et al 2020 ). The genera Aquirufa and Sandaracinomonas , described in 2020 (Chen et al 2020 ), formed a lineage closely related to the genera Flectobacillus , Arcicella, and Pseudarcicella . The five genera of this clade were accommodated in the family Cytophagaceae (Skerman et al 1980 ), belonging to the phylum Bacteroidota (Oren and Garrity 2021 ).…”

“…Although previous studies have improved the taxonomic classification of Bacteroidota , the current taxonomic problems among the species of these three families were mainly caused by the novel species proposed after 2019. The genera Aquirufa [7], Arundinibacter [37], and Tellurirhabdus [38] reported in 2019, Chryseotalea [39] and Sandaracinomonas [40] reported in 2020, and ‘ Chryseosolibacter ’ and ‘ Dawidia ’ [41] reported in 2022 were all assigned to the family Cytophagaceae . The genus Marinilongibacter reported in 2023 was assigned to the family Spirosomataceae [42].…”

“…If the semi-solid medium became turbid, the strain was regarded as motile. Growth in the modified LB medium was determined at different temperatures (4,10,15,20,25,30,35,37,40, and 45 °C), pH (pH 4-10 at 0.5 pH unit intervals), and NaCl concentrations (0-4% at 0.5% intervals, w/v) to determine the optimal growth conditions. The pH values were adjusted with different buffer systems as previously described by Lu et al [34].…”
