This paper presents a passive 2-D beam steering solution comprising of a triple-mode circular waveguide horn antenna operating at Ka-band frequency of 30 GHz, a pair of identical dielectric lenses employing Risley prism and a parabolic phase correcting surface. The circular waveguide horn antenna generates TE 11 , TM 01 and TE 21 modes independently. The pair of identical dielectric lenses employing the Risley prism concept are axially rotated individually and/or simultaneously to steer the radiated beam. The parabolic phase correcting structure is used to further improve the performance of the steered patterns. Overall, this antenna structure steers TE 11 , TM 01 and TE 21 modes patterns which makes it an attracting solution for tracking and communication applications. The proposed antenna system has been prototyped and experimentally verified in a compact antenna test range (CATR) chamber. The measured conical scan angles for TE 11 mode is found to be around ±40 • with gain deviation less than 3 dB. The TM 01 and TE 21 modes are steered with a scan angle covering ±30 • .

Bu çalışmada, X bant uzay uygulamaları için FR4 malzemesinin dielektrik ölçüm yaklaşımına dayalı kompakt bir U-Yarıklı yama anten tasarımı sunulmaktadır. Tasarım yöntemine uygun olarak, anten tasarımlarında kullanılacak HFSS tasarım aracına, FR4 malzemesinin dalga kılavuzu yöntemi kullanılarak X-bantta ölçülen frekansa bağlı dielektrik sabiti ve tanjant kaybı değerleri uygulanmıştır. Daha sonra, yaklaşımın anten tasarımları üzerindeki fonksiyonel performansı, literatürdeki standart bir anten tasarımının benzetim ve ölçüm sonuçları ile kıyaslanarak doğrulanmıştır. Doğrulanan sonuçlar ışığında, önerilen tasarım yöntemi kullanılarak X-bant uzay uygulamaları için yanal yan yarıklara sahip yeni bir U-Yarıklı yama anten tasarımı, bir besleme hattı ile sunulmaktadır. Sunulan kompakt anten tasarımı, merkez frekansta (9,5 GHz) 1,77 dB kazanç ve 8,53 GHz'den 10,63 GHz'e kadar frekans bant genişliği sağlar.

This paper introduces a feeding concept aimed at eliminating the backend (phase shifters) of traditional phased arrays. A goal is to make phased arrays simpler and less costly for satellite communications. Accordingly, we employ a travelingwave array (TWA) using a single feedline whose propagation constant is controlled via a single, small, mechanical movement of a dielectric plunger to enable scanning. The dielectric plunger is positioned within a parallel-plate waveguide (PPW) transmission line (TL) that feeds the TWA. By adjusting the position of the dielectric plunger within the transmission line, the feedline achieves a propagation constant range of 1 ≤ k ef f /k0 ≤ 2.1, corresponding to scan angles of −32.6 • ≤ θ ≤ 34.2 • with an element spacing of d = 0.65λ0. That is, beam steering is achieved using a single feed and a simple linear mechanical movement (for any size array) without using phase shifters.A 20 element array was designed for stable realized gain across −25 • ≤ θ ≤ 25 • beam steering. Additionally, a proof of concept array was fabricated and measured. The simulated co-polarized realized gain closely matches the fabricated TWA patterns.
