“…Furthermore, scientific evidence has demonstrated that rural communities, when compared to urban communities, have a higher percentage of decayed teeth (50.3% versus 43.7%), possibly associated with lack of fluoridated water supply and lack of preventive, educative and restorative dentistry. 8 In this study, strong association was found between the age of people in rural communities in the semi-arid region of Bahia state and tooth extractions, demonstrating that older quilombolas have more odds of having tooth loss due to extraction.
