SCADA as a service approach for interoperability of micro-grid platforms

Abstract: In the context of smart grid development, this paper considers the problem of interoperability of micro-grid platforms, particularly among research institutions. Various levels of interoperability are introduced with the respective requirements. The primary aim of the paper is to propose a suitable private hybrid cloud based SCADA architecture satisfying various necessities in the framework of interoperability of micro-grid platforms while maintaining security restriction conditions. Due to the limited time re… Show more

“…The integration of SCADA systems provides a more systematic way to include various resources from different partners into a holistic experiment. Due to the distance among the participants RI, a hybrid cloud based approach was proposed in [13] to enable interoperability inter-platforms while ensuring the low latency, confidentiality and security for critical tasks. In this approach, the critical tasks are maintained on-site and are controlled by the local SCADA server, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) or Remote Terminal Unit (RTU).…”

“…The integrated infrastructures are most of the time distanced from each other, so latency and information loss in communication are potential issues to the performance of the joint platform, thus, new architectural approach with ICT integration is required. In [5], a hybrid cloud based SCADA architecture was proposed to address the problems of interop erability and holistic cross-infrastructure experiment among research infrastructures ( Figure 2). The architecture is based on the concept of hybrid cloud (in the sense that only some applications are available via the consortium cloud server) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) model of service deliverance (i.e.…”

“…Reference [8] presented the communication and PC interface of the microgrid SCADA, and Reference [9] presented a SCADA system using the IEEE 802.22 standard to overcome all existing limitations. Additionally, Reference [10] used a SCADA system to provide real-time control of power switching relays, and obtain information about their status and perform three-phase measurement, whereas the primary aim of Reference [11] was to propose a suitable private hybrid cloud based SCADA architecture that satisfied various necessities in the framework of interoperability of microgrid platforms while maintaining security restriction conditions. In contrast, our research designed a SCADA system programmed by Java to be the middleware in an innovative microgrid intelligent monitoring platform.…”
