Scattering of SH Waves by a Truncated Semi-Elliptic Canyon

Abstract: In this study, the region-point-matching technique (RPMT) is applied to examine the scattering problem of truncated semi-elliptic canyons under plane SH-wave excitation. The partition of the entire analyzed region into two subregions is carried out via an introduction of the elliptic-arc auxiliary boundary. Taking advantage of appropriate wavefunctions in elliptic coordinates, the expression of antiplane motions for each subregion can be obtained. To accomplish the indispensable coordinate shift, the coordinat… Show more

“…Elastic wave scattering and resulted dynamic stress concentrations problems are always play a significant role in theoretical researches and engineering applications [1,2]. As the most basic and simplest wave model, anti-plane elastodynamics are given more attentions, more adequate researches and comprehensive analyses, then, many complicated boundary conditions and interface problems are resolved [3][4][5][6][7]. We discuss a steady state problem for SH wave scattering of a circular cavity and a semi-circular canyon in an elastic quarter in this present paper.…”

“…This paper develops an efficient semi-analytic method to solve the issue of EM scattering originating from a truncated semi-elliptic cavity embedded in a PEC ground plane. The so-lution is based on boundary value analysis [13] and the regionpoint-matching method [15], which is a numerical matching procedure. As a result, the proposed method simultaneously benefits from the advantages of both the numerical and analytical methods.…”
