Scents from Brazilian Cerrado: chemical composition of the essential oil from Psidium laruotteanum Cambess (Myrtaceae)

Abstract: The chemical composition of the essential oils from the leaves from three different populations of Psidium laruotteanum Cambess. (Myrtaceae) from the Brazilian Cerrado were analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS. Forty-five components were identified in the oils. The oil yields were 0.3% (dry weight basis). The oil was rich in monoterpenes and major compounds identified were p-cymene (19.4-34.8%), 1,8-cineole (6.9-19.2%) and α-pinene (9.2-11.4%). Although collected in different locations and years, the essential oils co… Show more

“…Regarding the chemical variability of leaves essential oils of Psidium laruotteanum , the records from Midwest Brazil were classified into three chemical profiles, rich in monoterpenes with p -menthane and pinane skeletons. Profile I was rich in p -cymene (24.8%), 1,8-cineole (19.2%), α-pinene (13.4%), and terpinen-4-ol (6.3%) [ 86 ]. Profile II was dominated by p -cymene (19.4%), α-pinene (11.6%), 1,8-cineole (6.9%), terpinen-4-ol (5.8%), and followed also by γ-terpinene (14.0%), limonene (10.2%), and terpinolene (5.1%) [ 86 ].…”

“…Over 300 samples from 134 different plant species were collected, and their essential oils were distilled and chemically and sensorially analyzed. The sensorial analyses were performed by a senior perfumist from Givaudan, an Embrapa partner in this enterprise, and some of the results have been published . One of the assessed species in the project was Bidens graveolens .…”

The first report concerning this plant appeared in 1983, in which a petroleum ether extract was investigated and sesquiterpenoids, including germacrene D and spathulenol, were the major detected compounds.…”
