Schiff base complexes and their versatile applications as catalysts in oxidation of organic compounds: part I

Abstract: Schiff bases and their complexes are good candidates as versatile compounds which are synthesized by the condensation of a primary amino compound with either aldehydes or ketones for a variety of industrial applications. They can act as catalysts in the catalytic oxidation of organic compounds. Recent researches in oxidation catalysis have focused on how to employ the metal‐catalyzed oxidation of organic substrates. This review summarizes the current developments of the last few decades for the oxidations of o… Show more

“…The functional group frequencies of the ligand and its metal complexes are given in Table . The FT‐IR spectra show that the stretching frequency of azomethine group (νC═N) shifts to 1610–1630 cm −1 in the spectra of metal complexes when compared to the Schiff base at 1662–1635 cm −1 (Figure ) . This result indicates the coordination of nitrogen atoms to metal ions .…”

“…The spectrum of Ni(II) complex shows peaks at 263 and 388 that lead to ligand felid. Two peaks at 874 and 980 nm described to electronic transition 3 T 1(F) → 3 T 1(p) and 3 T 1(F) → 3 T 2(F) gradually . The diamagnetic Pd(II) of low spin complex appears peaks at 474 nm due to 1 A 1g → 1 A 2g and the speak band at 876 nm attributed 1 A 1g → 1 B 1g .…”

“…Schiff bases and their complexes are considered as privileged class of compounds due to their biochemical synthesis, electrochemical analysis, anti‐fungal, antiviral, anti‐malarial, anti‐inflammatory, as well as, catalytic activities . Schiff bases are also of interest in industrial fields and as a corrosion inhibitor, thermostable materials, as well as, powerful ligands in the formation of coordination compounds . Recently, Al Zoubi and co‐workers have reported the synthesis and structural characterization of Schiff bases and their complexes derived from different amines .…”
