Schwere Koffeinintoxikation mit Rhabdomyolyse

Abstract: We report the case of a young man who took a large amount of caffeine powder dissolved in water in a suicide attempt. He was found comatose. The initial diagnosis was difficult. In hospital he suffered from rhabdomyolysis with renal failure and sepsis rapidly developed. After renal replacement treatment with hemodialysis, long-term artificial ventilation with tracheotomy and a 3‑week stay in the intensive care unit, the patient could be discharged to a rehabilitation center.
