The article considers modern methodological approaches to the formation of leadership competencies of future transport industry specialists. The paper provides definitions of such key concepts as "leader", "leadership", "leadership competencies" and "leadership competencies of future specialists in transport technologies". It has been found that the process of forming leadership competencies in educational institutions at the present stage should take place throughout the entire period of study in an educational institution, as well as during educational work, and be purposeful, meaningful and systematic. The main types of educational activities, methods and technologies of teaching, which are used to form leadership competencies in students, are characterized. It is proved that in educational activities and in educational work it is necessary to use information and communication technologies that provide ample opportunities for personal development and formation of leadership competencies of students, motivate students, reveal their leadership potential, and promote the development of skills to argue and defend their position. It has been researched, that students should be involved in the work of student self-government bodies, in the work of volunteer organizations, clubs, sections, etc. It is substantiated that teachers play a key role in shaping the leadership competencies of future transport industry professionals, they are fully responsible for unlocking their leadership potential and developing their leadership competencies. Therefore, teachers must have a thorough knowledge of fundamental knowledge of leadership, psychology, and pedagogy and the ability to apply it effectively and pass it on to students.
