SciNapse: a problem-solving environment for partial differential equations

Abstract: The SciNapse code generation system transforms high-level descriptions of partial dif f erential equation problems into customized, efficient, and documented C or Fortran code. Modelers can specify mathematical problems, solution techniques, and I/O formats with a concise blend of mathematical expressions and keywords. An algorithm template language supports convenient extension of the system's built-in knowledge base.artial differential equations can represent the essence of a broad range of problems in engi … Show more

“…In spirit it is similar to systems such as SciNapse [Akers et al 1997], a problem solving environment for partial differential equations, or Ellman's systems for generating numerical simulation programs from differential equations [Ellman and Murata 1998] and physics-based animation programs from a specification of analytical dynamics [Ellman et al 2002]. It differs mainly in its schema-based approach to code generation.…”

“…Several program synthesis systems are being used in different scientific areas. SciNapse [Akers et al 1997] is a system for solving partial differential equations (PDEs). It generates Fortran or C programs from a PDE specification.…”
