Application of chemical substances as stress pre-treatment factors may positively influence androgenetic responses in cereal and other crops. AgNO 3 is an anti-ethylene compounds that played a significant role in combination with other chemicals for anther culture responses in cereal and other crop plants. For this study two local wheat cultivars viz. Kheri and Akbar were considered to evaluate the effect of AgNO 3 and to optimize the suitable doses of plant growth regulators, amino acids and sucrose that supplemented in MS medium. Data were recorded on the basis of embryoids induction, regenerated green and albino plants. The results clearly stated that anther culture responses and its major outcomes on regeneration significantly increased with suitable dosages of chemicals. The most noteworthy increases embryo like structures and regenerated green plants accomplished by utilizing the combined effect of AgNO 3 (50 mg/l) and as plant growth regulators IAA (1.0 mg/l) þ kinetin (0.5 mg/l). Best embryo like structures (79.17%) and green plants (33.33%) were recorded in Kheri. The results clearly stated that reducing albinism and increasing embryos induction and green plants 50-75 mg/l silver nitrate along with optimum doses of IAA and kinetin showed very effective results in wheat.

Being a model crop as well as a staple food crop, rice possesses a conspicuous position in plant sciences. Doubled haploid (DH) breeding in rice offers multiple advantages over conventional methods via accelerating the process of pure lines development. For ages, several methods have been devised for haploid production in rice. In vitro‐based methods have demonstrated their potential in DH production, but these methods are further impeded by stringent requirements and restricted to few species. Further, unlike maize, the in vivo DH breeding technology is still impractical in rice. Recent findings of the key molecular players behind the haploid induction (HI) trait in maize and rice have shown their potential in rice improvement programmes. In this review, we have discussed different strategies of HI in rice particularly focusing on recent progress made for developing haploid inducer stock (HIS) by employing both conventional and modern approaches. It also focuses on future implications of HIS so that it can be incorporated in the pipeline of modernized rice breeding.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a cereal crop cultivated mainly in tropical and even some subtropical countries and provides food for more than half of the world's population. Nowadays, haploid biotechnology (gynogenesis and androgenesis) is used in breeding practice as one of the tools to improve rice, preferably in vitro androgenesis. The method of in vitro cultivation of male gametophyte is one of the promising biotechnological approaches in crop breeding research, including rice. This method is based on the biological phenomenon of androgenesis -formation of haploid regenerant plant from anther and microspore cells, whose development switches from gametophytic to sporophytic pathway. However, the wide application of these technologies is limited by the existing two problems associated with the genotype-dependence of plant regeneration and formation of albino plants in many cases in in vitro male gametophyte culture of rice. The need to eliminate these restrictions has been and remains. This requires continued research in this direction to develop and optimize the technology of cultivation, pre-treatment of anthers and components of the nutrient medium, universal for all rice genotypes. This review considers a number of factors that affect the efficiency of rice androgenesis in vitro.
