ChildWell‐BeingScales (CWBS) in the assessment of families and children in home‐care intervention: an empirical study

Abstract: This paper reports research carried out in Italy designed to investigate the usability of Child Well-Being Scale (CWBS) for the outcome evaluation of home-care interventions for vulnerable families and children in need. Using a pre- and post-test design, the study traces the changes in 18 vulnerable families and 23 children in need included in a programme of home-care intervention over a period of 11 months. All the families and children were assessed twice: at intake and at the end of the intervention (after … Show more

“…This study confirms the results of previous research which has found a direct relationship between poverty and parenting ability. Moreover, there is at least some indication that one of the mechanisms responsible for translating higher household incomes into better child outcomes is through increased parental quality (Serbati, Pivetti & Gioga, 2015), while parenting time does not appear to have been an important causal factor. b) Theory implications, policy impact and methodological issue As we have seen, there are a number of psychological and sociological explanations about the linkages between SES and crime.…”

“…For example, the Italian culture views well-being as a group construct defined [19] Donatella Giovanni and measured by context, the environmental stability and relational characteristics [19]. Semanchin Jones, LaLiberte and Piescher find that many models include individual variables focusing on social, physical, cognitive and emotional well-being when looking at child well-being [20,21]. They also find that a few models include contextual, familial aspects or concepts about stability and permanency when coming from a cultural group.…”

“…Bronfenbrenner's ideas have also been embraced in a number of key social work texts that emphasize personal development within a social context (Aldgate et al, 2006;Trevithick, 2009;Horwath, 2010;Sudbery, 2010). Moreover, his ecological framework has been widely cited and appropriated within areas such as family support to children 'in need' (Jack, 2000;Hardy and Darlington, 2008;Branch et al, 2013); the assessment of children and families (Serbati et al, 2013); the theorization of resilience, trauma and attachment (Harney, 2007); and the empirical investigation of familial relationships (Tudge et al, 2009). In all of this, 'Bronfenbrenner sought to sort out and explicate the common principles of both ecology and system's thinking in a manner having application across various social scientific disciplines' (Besthorn, p. 175, 2013).…”
