DCE‐MRI findings of invasive aspergillosis in patient with acute myeloid leukemia

Abstract: Thoracic radiography and high resolution computerized tomography is used to diagnose pulmonary infections in immunosuppressed patients, although in some cases these do not provide enough information about the lesion. Dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging may be useful in these cases, especially for the characterization of cavitary lesions and assessment of their contrast diffusion.

“…Although morphological assessments of cystic‐cavitary lung lesions have been reported in previous studies with CT and MRI, only a few case reports have investigated the dynamic features of lesions . DCE‐MRI studies of the chest have primarily focused on solid lesions and, no previous study has investigated the role of DCE‐MRI in cystic‐cavitary lung lesions. Our results in cystic‐cavitary lesions were concordant with the previous reports performed in solid lung lesions.…”

“…In diffusion-weighted images (DWI), lesion walls showed restricted diffusion. In postcontrast phase dynamic contrast images, lesion walls showed enhanced contrast (wash in 80%-90%), and there was no washout in late-phase images [57] .…”

“…By using an advanced MR pulse sequence with ultra-short echo times, pathological changes within the infected lung were visually and quantitatively detectable and with a high degree of sensitivity. In humans, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) might also be useful for imaging IPA in immunosuppressed acute myeloid leukemia patients ( Araz et al, 2014 ).…”
