Abstract

This entry discusses the historical and latest trends in the development of correctional services and penal population in Hong Kong. It first describes the five main custodial regimes for young and adult offenders: detention centers, rehabilitation centers, training centers, drug addiction treatment centers, and prison. Emphasis is placed on the use of supervision schemes and rehabilitation as approaches to help offenders become law‐abiding citizens. The effectiveness of the correctional services will also be discussed.
