Abstract: There is a Gothic tradition in Scandinavian literature, lasting from the early nineteenth century to the present day, where the stories are located in Scandinavia, and the Gothic castle or haunted house is replaced by the Nordic wilderness, the vast dark forest, the snow‐covered Nordic mountains, or the icy stormy sea.
