Single‐feed slotted‐patch antenna loaded with metasurface for CubeSat applications

Abstract: In this paper, a metasurface‐based antenna with broadband circularly polarized (CP) radiation is presented for S‐band CubeSat applications. It consists of a single‐feed slotted patch and a metasurface composed of 4 × 4 periodic metallic plates. The patch is sandwiched between the finite metasurface and ground plane to excite surface wave resonances for the broadband operation. The antenna is designed to achieve the geometry and characteristics, which are compatible with any CubeSat standard structure. The fina… Show more

“…By using FSS superstrate, a high gain wideband patch antenna for millimeter wave applications is proposed in Asaadi et al 12 In Gupta et al, 13 an array of nonuniform PPs are used on superstrate to achieve high gain. To enhance the gain of CP antenna, and to reduce to back radiation, AMC is used in Lokman et al 14 In Ta et al, 15 to improve both the gain and bandwidth, a single fed slot patch antenna loaded with metasurface is presented for CubeSat applications.…”

“…I N modern wireless systems, circularly polarized (CP) wave is used as a powerful technique to mitigate multipath interference, polarization mismatch, and the Faraday effect. As a result, CP antennas [1] have been developed widely for several applications in radio frequency identification [2], global positioning system [3], wireless local area network (WLAN) [4], satellite communications [5], [6], synthetic aperture radar [7], and so on. Moreover, dual-CP antennas, which can generate both right-and left-hand CP (RHCP and LHCP) radiations, are expected for not only polarization diversity but also frequency reuse [8].…”
