Screening of Surfactants for Huff-N-Puff Injection into Unconventional Reservoirs

Abstract: The gradual depletion of conventional oil reserves and the growing demand for hydrocarbon feedstock have led to shale deposits development necessity, which are characterized by high reservoir temperatures and very low permeabilites. One of the methods proposed for unconventional reservoirs development is surfactant injection in huff-n-puff mode. Unlike surfactant flooding, where the main effect is achieved through the displacement mechanism, the huff-n-puff method is based on capillary imbibition. Surfactant s… Show more

“…As it was shown in our previous work, 37 the dispersion with 0.005 wt % colloidal SiO 2 nanoparticles (Table 4) and 0.05 wt % surfactant illustrated the highest stability at reservoir temperature (90 °C) and salinity (13.5 g/L). Moreover, this dispersion illustrated the lowest IFT values (0.54 ± 0.01 mN/m) compared to that of 0.05 wt % surfactant without nanoparticles (1.41 ± 0.08 mN/m).…”
