Scrotal Ultrasonic Features of Congenital Bilateral Absence of Vas Deferens

Abstract: Ultrasonography images of the scrotum revealed characteristics that were commonly present in patients with CBAVD. Therefore, this method is helpful to diagnose CBAVD by identifying the features of epididymis structural abnormalities and cystic or tubular dilation of the epididymis.

“…Therefore, the diagnosis of agenesis is based on nonvisualization of this segment. 12,18 As mentioned earlier, this depends on a combination of grayscale and Doppler imaging with and without graded compression (Figs. 15,16,17) Like the vas deferens, the epididymis arises from the Wolffian duct and may be atretic itself or altered due to obstruction.…”

“…In a previous study, Middleton et al 7 showed that the straight, suprascrotal segment of the vas can be seen 100% of the time. Therefore, the diagnosis of agenesis is based on nonvisualization of this segment 12,18 . As mentioned earlier, this depends on a combination of grayscale and Doppler imaging with and without graded compression (Figs.…”

“…B-ultrasound is the simplest and most harmless imaging examination method. It can not only clearly show the vas deferens through the transabdominal, scrotal, and transrectal methods (Schlegel et al, 1996;Daudin et al, 2000;Liu et al, 2017) but also detect whether the seminal vesicles, kidneys and other structures are abnormal (Lotti and Maggi, 2015). This method is always used by andrologists clinically during the diagnosis of CBAVD.…”
