While the Agile-Scrum (scrum) framework has specific guidelines, these guidelines are often adapted by practitioners. This research aims to understand how scrum changes in practice and how these changes impact various aspects of project success. Through interviews with representatives from 11 organizations who use scrum for software development, we found variability in the application of the guidelines, namely, that only a small number of guidelines are systematically followed, and that some guidelines are rarely followed consistently. Examining these method deviations and mapping them to specific dimensions of project success, four patterns emerged. Further, we uncovered practices that are often followed but were not part of the original Scrum guidelines, including how organizations scale scrum projects. These insights into how scrum is used in practice can help industry professionals determine how to best adapt scrum. They also serve as a promising agenda for research on the application of the scrum framework in industry.

In recent decades, the challenge of managing the development teams spread across different time zones has become increasingly common, raising the importance of the development of Global Software Development (GSD) techniques, in order to tackle its particular problems. This work discuss these issues in the context of Sidia, an R&D institute which implements technological solutions for global companies. The main partner of Sidia is a mobile multinational company located in overseas. The development team must cooperate with the overseas team, even though there are no overlapping working hours between both teams. Besides, the teams have a different set of skills regarding design, quality assurance, and software engineering. In order to address theses problems, we propose the Blueprint model, a Kanban and Scrum based model that supports the development of GSD systems, the allocation of tasks and teams, and the efficient communication. Finally, we discuss the aspects and lessons learned of development of project and deploy of a new model for systems development on a real-word project.

Introduction: Techniques that help in understanding and designing user needs are increasingly being used in Software Engineering to improve the acceptance of applications. Among these techniques we can cite personas, scenarios and interaction models. Personas are fictitious representations of target users. Scenarios provide various types of information at different levels of abstraction. Interaction models help in design of an adequate user interaction with the system. Case description: This paper presents a research that reports a set of practical activities applied by a software team using techniques in the analysis and design phases of a mobile application. In the analysis phase, we created personas and scenarios for the extraction of requirements. In the design phase, we created interaction models for describes the behavior between user and system during the interaction. We employed these interaction models to develop other artifacts, such as prototypes. In addition, we presented a technique developed by the analysis and design team for the inspection of interaction models. This technique reduced the spread of defects in the interaction models.Discussion and evaluation: From the results of this research, we suggest: (i) employing personas and scenarios to understand the requirements; (ii) employing interaction models to understand the behavior between user and system; and (iii) using interaction models as basis to develop other artifacts. Conclusions: Through the reporting of this set of practical activities, we hope to provide support for software engineers willing to adopt techniques that support the analysis and design of applications aiming at better quality of use for their users.
