“…In our experiments, we observed that the expression of SOD1, a key enzyme involved in the neutralization of superoxide anions ( Fukai and Ushio-Fukai, 2011 ), was significantly decreased in mesenteric vessels from HFD-fed mice, thus suggesting that the endothelial dysfunction elicited by HFD could depend also on the reduced ability of vascular tissues to scavenge superoxide anions. In agreement with our results, recent reports have documented a marked endothelial dysfunction associated with a significant vascular pro-oxidant condition in HFD animals ( Ketonen et al, 2010 ; Heinonen et al, 2014 ; Toral et al, 2015 ), as well as a decreased SOD1 scavenging activity ( Mo et al, 2018 ). Moreover, evidence from clinical studies, showing a correlation of obesity with compromised vascular function, is available also.…”

“…Rats in the control group were fed a normal diet, whereas all other rats were fed a high-fat diet and vitamin D 3 to induce AS (the composition of the rat diet is listed in Table S1) and was in accordance with the literature. 23,24,25 Food was provided adlibitum. After allowing the rats to acclimatize for in the corresponding group.…”

“…On basis of these results it can be concluded that baicalin is safe and may exert beneficial effect on animals during gestation. [73,35]. It was revealed that Scutellaria has many activities such as cardioprotective [74], vasoprotective [35,75], anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, vascular relaxative, anti-platelet and anti-coagulative [76].…”

“…Recently, Mo et al [73] performed complex studies of scutellarin activity in various models in vitro. Their results showed that various concentrations of scutellarin used to estimation of antioxidative properties (total antioxidant capacity -TAC, 2,2-diphenyl-1picrylhydrazyl -DPPH, superoxide anion, and hydroxyl radical) scavenged all types of radicals in a dose-dependent manner, value of EC 50 in scavenging hydroxyl radical was 37.11 µM.…”
