Search for a stable alignment limit in two-Higgs-doublet models

Abstract: We study the conditions required to make the 2HDM scalar potential stable up to the Planck scale. The lightest CP-even scalar is assumed to have been found at the LHC and the alignment limit is imposed in view of the LHC Higgs data. We find that ensuring stability up to scales 10 10

“…Therefore, the question may arise, how would the results we have hitherto presented change, if one considers 8 It is easier to fit the existing data with m h above roughly 62.5 GeV, but that is due to possible H → hh decays potentially enlarging the branching ratio of H beyond what is acceptable to be compatible with the LHC data on the Higgs rates. 9 We differ from previous calculations [29,31,32] due to the higher charged Higgs mass bound, which had used a value of 350 GeV.…”

“…On the other hand, in Ref. [29] a type II version with an exact Z 2 symmetric model was analyzed, concluding that the potential with m 2 12 ¼ 0 cannot be valid beyond 10 TeV without the intervention of new physics, a conclusion later confirmed in [31]. However, this conclusion is heavily dependent on the value of the charged Higgs mass, m H AE .…”

“…With the discovery and identification of a SM-like Higgs boson, the question of the validity of extended Higgs sectors up to the Planck scale has become more focused. A number of authors have considered the stability properties of extended Higgs sectors with additional singlet scalar fields [29][30][31][32] and 2HDMs with constrained scalar potentials [33][34][35].…”

“…Since a break-down of stability would mean that our theory would lose validity beyond a certain scale, we want to impose a stable Higgs potential beyond µ ew as a constraint on all couplings. Recently, the impact of stability up to the Planck scale on the parameters in the alignment limit of the 2HDM was discussed in [48]. If one wants to solve the Higgs mass fine-tuning problem, one has to guarantee the cancellation of quadratic divergencies of higher order Higgs mass correction terms.…”
