SEARCH FOR BREMSSTRAHLUNG RADIATION IN QUASI-FREE np→npγ REACTIONS

Abstract: Due to the high sensitivity of the N N → N N γ reaction to the nucleon -nucleon potential, Bremsstrahlung radiation is used as a tool to investigate details of the nucleon -nucleon interaction. Such investigations can be performed at the cooler synchrotron COSY in the Research Centre Jülich, by dint of the COSY-11 detection system. The results of the identification of Bremsstrahlung radiation emitted via the dp → dpγ reaction in data taken with a proton target and a deuteron beam are presented and discussed.

“…The measurement of the η ′ meson production in the proton-neutron collision [2] has been conducted using a proton beam of the Cooler Synchrotron COSY [9] and a cluster jet deuteron target [10]. More details concerning functioning of the particular detectors and method of the measurement of the quasi-free reaction can be found in references [1,2,11,12]. In this article we will concentrate on the neutral particle detector [13,14,15] which has been designed to deliver the time at which the registered neutron or gamma quantum induced a hadronic or electromagnetic reaction, respectively.…”

“…Protons are measured in two drift chambers and scintillator de- tectors [11,13], neutrons are registered in the neutral particle detector [14]. A quasi-free pn → pnX reactions were induced by a proton beam in a deuteron target since pure neutron targets do not exist.…”

“…The COSY-11 facility used to investigate the quasi-free pn → pnX reactions is equipped with detectors for the registration of fast charged particles [18,19], neutrons [20,21] and slow spectator protons [9]. Experiments are conducted using the COSY proton beam [22,23] incident on the internal deuteron cluster target [24,25].…”
