Search for DCC in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions: Possibilities and Limitations

Abstract: The experimental observation of disoriented chiral condensate is affected due to various physical and detector related effects. We study and quantify the strength of the experimental signal, "neutral pion fraction" within the framework of a simple DCC model, using the analysis methods based on the multi-resolution discrete wavelet technique and by evaluating the signal to background ratio. The scope and limitations of DCC search in heavy-ion collision experiments using various combination of detector systems a… Show more

“…For high values of α this reaches close to 100%. For a given α and extraction criteria the purity is higher for photon excess cases than for charge-excess cases as observed earlier [14]. In DCC-II scenario the efficiency is much lower for charge-excess cases than for photon-excess cases.…”

“…1 for various cases. In general the f -distributions shrink inward for both scenarios of DCC formation after π 0 decay [14], the effect being more pronounced for DCC-II. It is clear that in the central part of f -distribution the study of DCC-like fluctuation is difficult due to overwhelming background from the binomial distribution of generic particle production mechanism.…”

“…In this paper, we have used a multiresolution analysis by discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) which has been successfully used in engineering, mathematics and computer science, astrophysics and multiparticle productions, DCC search [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. In our study, we demonstrate that the DWT proves to be very useful in identifying jetlike events in terms of their position and size.…”

“…It is also seen that the difference between VG and its mixed events is much less for the charge-excess case than for the photon-excess case. The PMD-SPMD detector combination is better suited to study the photon-excess fluctuations because the purity of the photon sample in the PMD improves for large f and can reach values up to 85% [22]. For the charge-excess case the charged particle contamination plays a significant role in reducing the purity of the photon sample, which can be as low as 45%, and also introduces unwanted correlations due to charged hits in the SPMD that are simultaneously mis-identified as photon hits in the PMD.…”
