Search for pair production of second-generation leptoquarks at s=13TeV

Abstract: A search for pair production of second-generation leptoquarks is performed using proton-proton collision data collected at √ s = 13 TeV in 2016 with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb −1 . Final states with two muons and two jets, or with one muon, two jets, and missing transverse momentum are considered. Second-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses less than 1530 (1285) GeV are excluded for β = 1.0 (0.5), where β is the branching fraction for the decay o… Show more

“…Gray region represents the 95% C.L. exclusion bound due to the leptoquark pair-production [78,79,80]. (b) Same for the parameter space of the leptoquark model R 2 in the plane (m R2 , Y L 2 ) allowed by the measurement of δ (g − 2) µ and the experimental bounds from the short-distance contribution to K L → µ + µ − .…”

“…More recent experimental analyses were made more sophisticated in order to squeeze more sensitivity out of them. The CMS Collaboration maximise their sensitivity using a multidimensional optimisation of the final selection for each m LQ in 36 fb −1 of delivered beam at the LHC [42], finding a 95% CL lower bound of m LQ > 1.28 TeV. The ATLAS collaboration has also performed a search in 36 fb −1 of 13 TeV pp collisions for LQs decaying to muons and jets.…”

“…In the last few years ATLAS and CMS have developed an interesting Leptoquark search program. This program consist in specific searches for Leptoquarks of first [26][27][28][29], second [1,[26][27][28]30] and third generation [31][32][33] as well as other related searches [34][35][36]. Since Leptoquarks carry color charge they are produced through QCD gauge couplings, and most analyses of a given generation consist in searches of pair produced Leptoquarks with the corresponding decay of each Leptoquark to a lepton and a quark in the corresponding generation.…”
