Periodicity of complications related to peptic ulcers has been proposed since the beginning of this century. However, this problem is still controverse in the literature. The present paper studied 735 consecutive patients treated for perforations and/or severe bleedings caused by peptic ulcers during a 10-year period. These complications were more frequent in men at earlier ages than in women. Perforations occurred more during the 3rd trimester and were more frequent than hemorrhages that occurred more during the 2nd trimester of the year.
