“…It is well known that tidal fluctuations play an important role in seawater infiltration during which dissolved matter in seawater is transported into benthic ecosystem in tidal flat as it returns to the sea by gravity drainage (McLachlan, 1982). Inter tidal flow of seawater supplies dissolved oxygen and consequently biological activities (Cheong, 2000). It is likely that the stranded oil prevents interstitial spaces of sediments, reduces water infiltration, and results in the decrease in oxygen, nutrients and other food supply to benthic communities.…”
