Secondary Laryngeal Tumors: Report of Seven Cases With Review of the Literature

Abstract: \s=b\ Laryngeal metastases are uncommon, particularly if we consider only secondary involvement from the remote primary neoplasm, via lymphohematogenous dissemination. In the 21-year period from 1966 to 1986, only seven cases of secondary laryngeal cancers were observed at the Department of Otolaryngology of Padua (Italy) University. A review of the world literature resulted in the identification of 113 previously reported cases. Cutaneous melanoma is the neoplasm most frequently metastasizing to the larynx, b… Show more

“…The most frequently affected site is the supraglottis (35-40% of all cases) followed by the subglottis (10-20%) and glottis (5-10%). Synchronous involvement of multiple laryngeal sites, however, is common and observed in about 35% of all cases [30,33].…”

“…Most studies described solitary metastasis to either the supraglottic, [9][10][11][12] or subglottic region, [13][14][15] two studies described involvement of both the supraglottic and glottic regions, [16,17] and one described metastases involving all three regions of the larynx.
