Secondary metabolites from Lantana camara L. flowers extract exhibit in vivo anti-urolithiatic activity in adult Wistar albino rats

Abstract: The present study aims at evaluating the potential of the ethanol extracts of L. camara leaves (LE), flowers (FlE), and roots (RE) in the treatment of renal calculi and characterizing the secondary metabolites in the active extract. The results revealed that the FlE had significantly reduced the levels of kidney parameters (calcium, creatinine, urea, and uric acid) against ethylene glycol (EG) injures, and restored the activity of the natural antioxidants; glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SO… Show more

“…These data corroborated the high antioxidant activity values presented by the L. camara extracts, since they were rich in phenolic compounds. Some of the compounds were identified previously in L. camara and/or other species of this genus 7,15,16,21,68–72 . The combination of FT‐Orbitrap MS information with that of several reports in the literature corroborated the proposed identification of iridoids, terpenoids, phenolic acids, phenylpropanoids, and flavonoids present in the extracts.…”

However, it is important to emphasize that FT-Orbitrap MS is a qualitative technique.…”

“…The methanolic extract of L. camara leaves has shown significant anti-ulcer and antioxidant activity in gastric and duodenal ulcer models 17 . Notably, the different parts of L. camara have also exhibited antilithiatic and nephroprotective activities against various diseaseinduced models [18][19][20][21][22][23] .…”
