Secretory defense system (SDS) in health and disease

Abstract: S 381and WI-38 cells was determined in a group of 8 seropositive adults with no history of clinical measles. The results showed that lymphocytes from the adults with measles effected as much as a 13% increase in Cr B1 release from WI-M1 as compared to WI-38 cells. The lymphocytes from the two individuals with negative histories showed a much diminished release. These results indicate that the measurement of lymphocytotoxic response may be a useful in vitro method for studying delayed hypersensitivity to measle… Show more

“…Comparison of individual pairs of sera (mother and child) showed no direct relationship between the two concentrations. By contrast to the raised lysozyme level in the serum of newborn infants, Stiehm et al (1971) found less of this enzyme in their tears (0.62 mg/ml) than in the tears of adults (2 mg/ml). Adinolfi ( 1972) arrived at similar conclusions and extended information on lysozyme activity in newborn infants by further aspects.…”

“…Miller ( 1969bMiller ( , 1971) published very important studies elucidating the character of the neonatal migratory activity deficiency of neonatalleucocytes. It was not until the in vitro techniques described above were evolved, however, that the migratory activity of neonatal leucocytes in vitro could be characterized exactly.…”
