Cyber-physical systems and internet of things (IoT) networks will form a universal computing environment which will motivate much of modern technological growth. Cyber-physical systems arise from the tight integration of physical processes, computational resources, and communication capabilities: processing units monitor and control physical processes by means of sensor and actuator networks. With regards to the level of operations, the cyber-physical systems platform should achieve the integration of various security controls (e.g., access, authentication, etc.), essential internet of things elements and processes (e.g., integration of systemic power from the smart grid, sensors, tags, etc.) even from the integration of new processes and information implementations. Intelligence depends on storage and sharing of large amounts of data. This chapter introduces a new model for cyber-attack defense modeling required to address cyber-physical attacks.
