Sediment and hydraulic measurements with computed bed load on the Missouri River, Sioux City to Hermann, 2014

Abstract: This work was performed to assist the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha and Kansas City Districts, in quantifying sediment bed load and suspended load at several sites on the Missouri River for the purpose of defining sediment-discharge rating curves and for possible parameterization of bed-load transport equations. Seven sites were selected, and all sites were surveyed three times, separated by at least 4 weeks (or 20% flow difference) between surveys. Multi-beam, acoustic Doppler current profiler, suspende… Show more

“…We targeted datasets with suspended sediment concentration for multiple heights in the water column, laser-diffraction grain size analysis, water depth, and boundary shear velocity data. We used datasets analyzed by de Leeuw et al ( 2020) and Lamb et al (2020), and included additional datasets (Abraham et al, 2017;Baronas et al, 2020;Bouchez, 2022;Dingle, 2021;Dingle et al, 2020) (Table S1 in Supporting Infomation S1).…”

“…The Atchafalaya and Red River measurements can be found in the "Old River Control Complex Sedimentation Investigation" [4]. The Missouri River data was a part of the "Sediment and Hydraulic Measurements with Computed Bed Load on the Missouri River, Sioux City to Hermann, 2014" report [5]. When multiple measurements have been recorded at a specific location or on a certain river for varying flows, rating curves can be developed.…”
